Retrieved more deadwood that had fallen this year. Cut into smaller pieces and dispersed throughout our two acres. Emptied some of the sawdust in the barren area. I see the Goldenrods are blooming! I see about five different varieties, including what I assume is the Gray Goldenrod (it is definitely in the Goldenrod family but from photographs that I have seen the blooms will turn a shade of yellow).
Broke into smaller pieces a rectangular terra cotta clay pot that I grew carrots in this year. Left in the southwestern portion of the large barren area for frogs or other small reptiles that may want to have a home on our two acres. There is a lot of Sumac fruit!!! I plan to harvest in the morning along with the Goldenrod. I checked on the Elderberries and they are not ripe yet.
The potatoes are done for the year. I will probably harvest in early to mid September. The ginger and turmeric are looking good. I see more peanuts than last time, which is good and there is new growth. I did not see any of the sweet potatoes. The turnip greens are growing and can start being harvested next month. I am not sure about the Shallot as I have never grown them.
The Aronias presumably are growing mainly underground now?! I do not see a lot of new growth but will monitor their progress and if needed move them elsewhere. The lone corn has had new growth. I found a young Sassafras not far from the Sassafras—that I guess we lost this year. It is looking good.
I see a lot of Partridge Peas too (very tall, some of them). The various native mints smell really good! I will see about saving some of their seeds in the Fall.
